In general, the term “Operational statistics” refers to a set of statistics that describes operations for a business, organization, or institution. It can also apply to a network, system, or internal operation (for example, a production line).

Process

The process usually involves:

  1. Gathering industry or process specific data,
  2. Generating descriptive statistics,
  3. Publishing the results.

Example Operational Statistics

The types of operational statistics are dependent on the specific institution or business. For example, statistics produced by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in the UK are very different from those from an executive airport or a national coroner’s office. The following list shows the categories for some organization’s operational statistics.

  1. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution:
    • Lifeboat statistics
    • Lifeguard statistics
    • Beach management statistics
    • Community safety statistics
    • Flood rescue statistics
    • Youth education statistics
  2. Jacksonville Executive at Craig Airport:
    • Total Based Aircraft
    • Total Trips / Flights
    • Noise complaint statistics
  3. National Coronial Information System:
    • Closed Cases
    • Open Cases
    • Total Cases
